According to Sec. 1001 of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021, the government has extended the date by which eligible organizations can make expenditures with CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds from December 30, 2020 to Dec 31, 2021. We are handling many inquires as to what CARES Act grant funds can and can’t go toward. HHS specifically noted that the term “healthcare related expenses attributable to coronavirus” is a very broad term that may cover a wide range of equipment that can be purchased to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus, including:

  • Supplies used to provide healthcare services for possible or actual COVID-19 patients
  • Equipment used to provide healthcare services for possible or actual COVID-19 patients
  • Workforce training

While not all equipment might seem to fit the category of Covid-19 equipment, first responders have seen an uptick in a number of other emergencies that are believed to be related to COVID-19. One example is increased cases of SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest), which has lead many organizations to bolster their fleet of AEDs.
