Will a Refurbished Stretcher Fit Your Ambulance? Five Quick Checks
Last Updated
November 7, 2026
A refurbished stretcher is one of the smartest ways to upgrade an ambulance without paying new-equipment prices, and fit is easier to figure out than most people think. Run through these five checks, send us the answers, and we’ll confirm what works before you spend a dollar.
1. Show us what’s in your ambulance now
One photo does most of the work. A picture of the floor of the patient compartment tells us how your stretcher mounts and what your floor is set up for. Along with it, send:
- The model of your current stretcher
- The type of mount it locks into
- Any lift kit or suspension changes
2. Decide: power or manual?
Our refurbished stretchers are Stryker power stretchers, and every one comes with two batteries and a charger. If you’d rather have a manual stretcher, we have those too. See Service Ready below.
3. Tell us how your stretcher locks in
Every ambulance secures the stretcher one of three ways: an antler-style mount, a Performance-LOAD, or a Power-LOAD. The stretcher has to be set up for the mount it rides in, and we handle that part. We just need to know which one you have. Not sure? The photo from step 1 usually tells us.If yours is an antler mount, let us know:
- Whether it’s mounted on the floor or the wall
- Whether your floor has the Universal Floor Plate
- Whether you might move up to a Power-LOAD or Performance-LOAD someday. Adding the floor plate today saves tearing up the floor later.
4. Choose how you want it built
This is the fun part. Refurbished stretchers are built to your order, so you decide:
- Wide fold-down XPS wings, or standard side rails. XPS wings open to 33 inches with a patient on board, so if your mount is on the wall, make sure there’s room on that side for the wings to open.
- Locking steer wheels for easier handling, or standard wheels
- Oxygen bottle at the head end with a pillow, or in the standard holder
Mattress, IV pole, and rear storage net are always included.
5. Know what you’re getting
Every refurbished stretcher is stripped to the frame, powder coated, and rebuilt with new wheels, bearings, belts, and hydraulic lines. Before it ships, it’s fully serviced and inspected, and it comes with:
- A signed inspection report for its serial number
- A one-year warranty
- Service support from our sister company, ReNew Biomedical
Not sure refurbished is the right fit? Meet Service Ready
Refurbished is a like-new rebuild, made to your order. Service Ready is the fast, budget-friendly alternative: a good used Stryker or Ferno stretcher or stair chair that has passed our appearance inspection, needed only minor repair, and received a full service before going on the shelf. Each Service Ready unit is listed with its configuration (with or without XPS wings, with or without locking steer wheels), so you pick the one that matches what you need and it’s ready to ship. We can still add your choice of oxygen holder and the mounting hardware for your ambulance at order time. Every unit carries a 120-day warranty, longer than most used equipment on the market, along with the same signed inspection report and ReNew service support.Service Ready is the right call for a backup or reserve rig, a training unit, a tight budget, or a crew that needs a stretcher this week rather than next month. And if the one you want sells before you order, we’ll find you the closest match or a refurbished alternative.
