What is an AED?

An AED is an Automated External Defibrillator, a portable device used to resuscitate a victim of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). AEDs are simple to use, designed to be deployed by non-medical bystanders in the event of a cardiac emergency.

More than 360,000 cardiac arrests occur out-of-hospital in the United States each year. Emergencies happen every day in homes, workplaces, schools, churches, parks, and public areas.

AEDS SAVE LIVES EVERY DAY

The average survival rate for Sudden Cardiac Arrest is only 10%. However, by immediately deploying an AED and CPR, survival rates jump to over 60%. (Source: American Heart Association)

For every minute that passes without an AED shock, the victim’s chance of survival decreases by 10%.

  • Frequently Asked AED Questions

HOW MANY AEDs DO I NEED, AND WHERE SHOULD THEY GO?

The best rule of AED placement: Keep AEDs so they can be reached quickly from anywhere people gather. Put them in visible, high-traffic areas, such as near entrances, front desks, break rooms, gyms, or common corridors. If you have multiple floors, large square footage, or multiple buildings, you may need more than one AED.

WHAT DOES AED MAINTENANCE LOOK LIKE?

AED maintenance programs are simple. Most programs involve monthly visual checks, making sure pads and batteries aren’t expired, and confirming the unit’s ready indicator is “green.” MME can help you plan replacements and keep your AED rescue-ready long-term.

CAN I TRUST A RECERTIFIED AED?

At MME, recertified AEDs are a cost-effective and dependable option when tested and documented correctly. Our recertified units are inspected and verified to meet performance requirements, and they ship ready to deploy, with clear documentation.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIRST AID KITS AND STOP THE BLEED KITS?

First aid kits handle common workplace and public injuries. Stop the Bleed kits are designed for severe bleeding emergencies and include trauma-focused supplies like tourniquets and hemostatic dressings. Many organizations keep both on-site for complete readiness.

WHAT FUNDING OR PURCHASING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?

We support organizations of all sizes. Depending on your needs, we can offer bundled packages, multi-unit pricing, trade-in credit for older devices, and guidance on funding paths that help you move faster without overcomplicating the purchase.
