Industry Alert: Recall of Medtronic HT70 and HT70 Plus Ventilators

HT70 Recall Medtronic recently announced a recall of specific Newport HT70 and HT70 Plus ventilators. This recall, labeled as a Class I recall by the FDA, is the most serious type because of the risk to patient safety.

What Happened?

Medtronic discovered an issue with certain parts inside certain ventilators, specifically two capacitors on the controller board causing failures and unexpected shutdowns. Dangerously, the alarm designed to warn of this shutdown might not activate properly. So far, there have been 63 reported incidents involving these ventilators.

Immediate Actions Needed

Medtronic is urging all users of affected HT70 and HT70 Plus ventilators to stop using these devices immediately. Providers must quickly find alternative ventilation methods to keep patients safe. Medtronic will not repair or service these devices going forward. Here’s what you need to do now:
  • Stop using the affected ventilators immediately.
  • Report any problems to the FDA’s MedWatch system.
  • Immediately plan for an alternate ventilation system.

Alternative Ventilation Options

EMS teams and hospitals must find reliable alternatives to the medtronic HT70 ventilator. One example of an alternative option is the V+Pro ventilator from React Health, built specifically to meet the needs of EMS and emergency care teams. The V+Pro offers:
  • Invasive, non-invasive, and mouthpiece ventilation modes.
  • High Flow Therapy for consistent airflow.
  • Pressure and volume control options for accurate ventilation.
  • Leak compensation for reliable operation in various conditions.
  • Compatibility for use in hospitals, ambulances, and even home settings.
  • Suitable for adult and pediatric patients weighing over 5 kg.
